In this class, the learners will interact with nature in an artistic and creative way. First, they will view and discuss the natural artwork created by the British sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy. Next, they will interact with their own natural world by going outside and gathering natural objects such as sticks, leaves, shells, etc. After that, the learners will arrange the natural materials in a creative fashion to make a work of art. Finally, they will engage in a discussion about the artworks in a positive manner, strengthening communication as well as critical thinking skills. Please provide appropriate supervision for your children.

This lesson provides many positive learning outcomes, including art history and culture, interaction with nature, as well as critical thinking skills. Creating the artwork enhances aesthetic and design skills, breaking down the elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, space, and form) and the principles of design (balance, pattern, movement, unity, variety, contrast, proportion, and emphasis). The discussion and critique of the artworks promotes positive communication, while also supporting other academic subjects such as science, social studies, math, and language arts, making Nature Art a well-rounded, creative learning experience.

My name is Kim, and I am a dedicated educator interested in providing an enriching educational experience for your student(s). I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in both Art Education and Arts/Crafts (Ceramics), and I hold a Georgia Educator Certificate (T5) in Art (P-12). I specialize in Art Education but have taught core academic classes as well. I have over 25 years of experience in public, charter, and private schools, as well as homeschool and online education. Given my range of experience teaching students of various ages and ability levels, I have a well-rounded view of education. I pride myself on the ability to adapt to many different learning styles and curricula, making me highly responsive to the individual needs of each child while fostering each child’s physical, social, and intellectual development. I am versatile enough to suit whatever educational needs you may have in whatever format may be best suited to facilitate your students’ changing needs and goals.
My enthusiasm and passion for education have given me the ability to demonstrate effective classroom management strategies while maintaining a fun and respectful learning environment.
