Through the guided drawing process, students will learn how to use simple lines and shapes to create five different drawings of birds. My teaching style involves breaking the process down into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. I pace the class according to the needs of the students; if needed, I give fast finishers a break, allowing students who need more time to complete their work, the time to do so, and even then, finishing before class ends is NOT the objective. 5 lessons//1 Week
Week 1Lesson 1HummingbirdsWe will examine the shapes and colors of hummingbirds, practice those shapes, and draw a hummingbird, finishing it up with black Sharpies, colored pencils, and if the student chooses, watercolor paint.Lesson 2PeacocksWe will examine the shapes and colors of peacock tail feathers, practice those shapes, and draw a peacock. We will finish it using black Sharpies, colored pencils, and watercolor paint (optional).Lesson 3ToucansWe will examine the shapes and colors of beaks, bodies and feathers, practice those shapes, and draw a toucan. We will finish it using black Sharpies, colored pencils, and markers (optional).Lesson 4FlamingosWe will examine the shapes of a flamingo's beak, body tail and legs, practice those shapes, and draw a flamingo. We will finish it using black Sharpies, colored pencils, and markers (optional).Lesson 5CardinalsWe will examine the shapes and colors of cardinals, practice those shapes, and draw a cardinal, finishing it up with black Sharpies, colored pencils, and if the student chooses for the background, watercolor paint.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
