In this fun and informative ongoing class, students will learn how to make persuasive arguments and practice presenting them. In each class we will pick a topic and practice crafting arguments around it. Students will learn to remain calm under pressure, utilize facts and evidence, use logic to anticipate rebuttals, and concede points when necessary. This class is ideal for anyone interested in pursuing a career in law, or with an interest in debate. Debating is an important life skill...
Students will learn: • How to be confident public speakers. • How to actively listen and respond to others. • How to craft rational and logical arguments. • How to disagree with others while maintaining respect and kindness. Students will gain valuable experience: • Presenting their own ideas in front of the class. • Answering a question from multiple perspectives. • Participating in competitive debates.
Teacher Mel is a law school graduate. She has been an active participant on debate teams and in moot courts for many years. She's also coached several debate clubs and moot teams.
