*Note: There are FOUR DIFFERENT COURSES within this "Applied Digital Skills" content. I have broken the lessons up into FOUR sets of FIVE lessons to make them more affordable and less of a commitment. These classes DO NOT need to be completed in sequence. Week 11 Design a Poster About You: Introduce yourself to your classmates by creating a poster you can print with Google Drawings. Design a poster with their name in a chosen font, large font size, and in their favorite color. Insert at least four images and resize and move the images where the student wants them on the poster. Print out the poster. Answer the following essential question(s): How can I share who I am visually? What can I learn about my classmates by looking at the posters they design? Why is it helpful to know people’s favorite pets, places to visit, or other likes and interests when trying to make new friends? Internalize the following enduring understanding(s): I can help people get to know who I am by using digital tools to create a poster about myself. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create a new Google Drawing. Title the drawing. Use a text box to insert a title. Change font style, size, and color. Use a web search to insert images. Resize and move images. Print a Google Drawing and understand basic print settings. Week 12 Design an Infographic in Google Drawings: Summarize and communicate information visually by creating an infographic in Google Drawings. Research a topic and find reliable data Create and design an infographic in Google Drawings Answer the following essential question: Why is an infographic a good way to communicate data? Internalize the following enduring understandings: Infographics provide quick reference to summaries of complex data Infographics use design and visual elements to communicate data As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Find and summarize reliable, detailed data Represent data visually Open and name a new canvas in Google Drawings Adjust formatting of text and images Add and edit images in Google Drawings Week 13 Create and Safeguard Passwords: Practice creating a strong password and keeping it safe using a spreadsheet. Simulate how hackers gain access to accounts, files, and devices when they are not protected by secure passwords. Understand how to create secure passwords. Protect their passwords using proven tools and strategies. Answer the following essential questions: What are the most common mistakes people make when creating a password? What are some ways that hackers gain access to accounts, files, and devices? Why is it important to create and safeguard secure passwords? How can I create passwords that hackers are less likely to guess? Internalize the following enduring understanding: Secure passwords are essential for protecting my identity, money, privacy, and more. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create and title a spreadsheet Add a new tab Copy and paste data Use the concatenate function to connect items Use the find and replace tool Insert checkboxes Week 14 Understand Your Digital Footprint: Visualize your digital footprint by recording your online actions in a spreadsheet. Understand what a digital footprint is and how it can be used by others Understand ways to shape one’s digital footprint Answer the following essential question(s): What actions do people take online? Which actions do I think are ok? What evidence does each action leave behind? How do I contribute to my digital footprint, actively or passively? How do others affect my digital footprint? How do individuals or businesses use my digital footprint to find out more about you? Internalize the following enduring understanding(s): My actions online are not entirely private. I should always be aware of what I’m doing online and how I am doing it, and work to shape a positive digital footprint. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create a new spreadsheet in Google Sheets Add text to cells Format text Digitally share a file with others Collaborate digitally in a spreadsheet Add conditional formatting Week 15 Identify Cyberbullying: Collaborate with classmates to create a plan to recognize and stop cyberbullying. Identify cyberbullying when they see it Understand what might be hurtful or embarrassing to someone else if posted online—and choose not to post it Have at least three action items they can take if they witness or experience bullying Answer the following essential questions: How might my actions online negatively affect others? What should I consider before posting something online? If I see someone being cyberbullied, what can I do? If I am being cyberbullied, what can I do? Who are some trusted adults who could help? Internalize the following enduring understandings: What is cyberbullying? How does it affect others? How can I be kind and respectful of others online? What can I do if I see cyberbullying? Who can I talk to if I see cyberbullying? As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create a new document Rename a document Share a document Add text to a document Format a document Add links to a document Insert a page break Search online for reliable sources
