In this fun, self-paced class, your learner will discover some of the amazing and unique ways in which animals use mimicry to save their lives - or take a life! Be it a spider who mimics an ant, a bird who mimics a snake, or a spider who goes "fishing," nature has some amazing surprised in store for your learner! This class has two lessons per week, and each class will cover a single type of mimicry at a time to ensure there is no confusion before moving on to the next. The 5 types of animal mimicry we will be covering are Batesian, Aggressive, Mullerian, Self, and Mimesis. Each class will focus on a minimum of 6 creatures, at times more, in short, 25-30 minute lessons. Each class is followed by animal trivia, and an opportunity to share their favorite animal from each lesson! An optional Kahoot! game will also be provided to enhance the learning experience. Videos will be posted with each lesson when necessary, along with a vocab sheet. My upbeat teaching style and colorful presentations will keep your learner engaged and coming back for more! I will respond in a timely manner to any posts or engagement on the learners end. I look forward to sharing our favorite animals from each class! Your learner is more than welcome to do some of their own research and teach me about an animal who uses mimicry! Simply have them post it on the classroom wall!

Some animals trick other animals into coming close so they can eat them, like the anglerfish, for example! It uses its lure to catch fish! It's a fish that fishes! Weird! There is also a wild cat in the Amazon who will pretend to be a baby monkey so that the others come looking for it, and then....dinner is served! Yum!
Aggressive mimicry is when animals lure prey to their death using their bodies, sounds, scent, and more!

We will briefly touch on reproduction in a very PG way, and convergent evolution, where animals who are not related have the same defense, like spines, for example.

If they are an animal lover, they will fit right in!

You can print the sheets before class if you like, but not everyone has a printer, so don't stress too much if you can't print anything. It will not affect how your child does in the class. It is just personal preference.
