課堂經歷
This class explores ancient archeological remains in the form of ancient graffiti from the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy. Students will examine images of different graffito, discuss its meaning, where it is located in the city, and its purpose. After learning about ancient graffiti, students will compare and contrast ancient and modern graffiti. This class designed for students to get a glimpse of the vast subject that is ancient graffiti without having to enroll in the 6-week Ancient Graffiti course. Upon completion of the class the goal is for students to have a fuller understanding of what ancient graffiti consisted of and how it differs and is similar to modern graffiti. This class is designed to encourage students to critically think about what the definition of graffiti is, who wrote ancient graffiti, why they wrote it, who the audience was, and how it differs or is similar to modern graffiti. This is facilitated by a Nearpod presentation that introduces students to different kinds of graffiti from Pompeii.

Students will have a richer understanding of the purpose of ancient graffiti and how it compares to the modern definition of graffiti.

Hello! I am Janette and I'm a proud history buff! I have always loved to read which fueled my natural interest of history at a young age. My fascination with the Greco-Roman world led to me learning the languages of these two cultures; Latin and Ancient Greek.
I have a BA in Ancient History, 2 year post-bacc certificate in Classics, and an MA in Classics. I have gained not only a lot of knowledge about Greco-Roman history, Latin, and Ancient Greek from these years of study, but I have also learned a lot of pedagogy. The programs that I completed placed high value on pedagogy and being able to teach others in a way that sparked a student's interest in Classics. As a result this is how I approach my classes; learning should be fun. I have taught/tutored a range of ages and skill levels and believe that learning can be fun and engaging. As a result, my classes incorporate a lot of Greco-Roman history and material culture even when learning languages. I hope to see you in class!
