With each session, we will explore how we can look at the world around us, and sometimes from reference photos, in order to become keen observers and to spark curiosity and discovery. Through this workshop, we will push ourselves to draw, not as artists, but as observers, therefore the goal isn't to have a nice drawing, but to have something for visual reference that shows something learned or interesting. Students will learn how to use basic art supplies to create drawings of their environement. Students will be able to differentiate between "icon", "Illustration", and photograph. Students will learn that observational drawing takes time and practice, and has little to do with "natural artistic talent" (which is a myth).
Heidi Jeub is a licensed teacher in art education and runs a portable art studio called the Tiny School of Art & Design. She is recognized for her work as a teaching arts and has been selected to be on various teaching artist rosters. She is a National Arts Strategies and Creative Community Leadership Institute fellow.
