All About Spelling is a phenomenal program for teaching children spelling and helping to solidify reading skills. This is a multi-sensory program designed to incorporate visual, kinesthetic (hands-on), and auditory techniques. I have used all levels of All About Spelling during the 13 years I have been homeschooling my son. He is now 16 years old and in college classes full-time.  I am so excited about tutoring with this program and being able to help other learners excel in both reading and spelling!

I add many aspects to the program that will help keep your learner engaged, including games, fun ways to practice writing and spelling words, and hands-on learning sessions. I believe in getting to know each learner so that I can create lessons specific to their learning needs. When you know how a child learns best, what their interests are, and the types of activities they enjoy most, you can create a learning environment that facilitates growth and allows each child to feel confident!

In this class, we will go at the pace that is best for your learner. I use games and activities to enhance lessons, add extra material if your learner needs more practice, and continually review material, as we progress through the lessons. 

After each session, I will send a message with the material that was covered. I will also share a word list and some activities if you would like more practice for your learner. 

When scheduling a tutoring session, if you would like the same time each week please select the "meet on a recurring basis" option when you sign up your learner. If you would like more than one day a week, I am happy to work with your learner as many days a week as you feel is best for them. If you do not see a time listed that works for you, please feel free to reach out. 

I have been granted permission to use All About Spelling with the understanding that each learner will purchase the student materials. If you are unsure what level your child needs, I will use our first session to give them a placement test. If your student is new to All About Spelling, it is recommended that they begin with level one to ensure there are no gaps. If your child is older they may progress through the program faster, but this will provide them a strong foundation with no gaps in their understanding of spelling. The student materials are available on the All About Learning website (https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/). If you need any help purchasing the student materials or are uncertain which materials are needed, please reach out and I am happy to help. 

Each level of All About Spelling builds on the skills that are taught in previous levels. This is a systematic approach to spelling that also helps children solidify their phonics skills and phonemic awareness. This is an overview of what is covered in each level.

Level 1:
⭐Learn phonograms A-Z, plus TH, SH, CH, CK, NG, NK
⭐Spell words with short vowel sounds containing new phonograms, such as bath, dog, 
     cash, wing, and such
⭐Spell words with initial blends and compound words
⭐Learn how to segment words with two and three sounds

Level 2:
⭐Learn phonograms WH, EE, ER, AR, OR, OU, OY, OI, AW, AU, and OW
⭐Spell Vowel-Consonant-E (VCE) words
⭐Learn to pluralize words ending in Silent E
⭐Learn the Open, Closed, and R-controlled syllable types

Level 3:
⭐Learn phonograms AI, AY, UR, OA, OO, EA, ED, IGH, IR, and EY
⭐Spell common contractions, such as can't
⭐Identify C+l-e syllable types
⭐Learn about consonant suffixes and vowel suffixes

Level 4:
⭐Phonograms TCH, DGE, EW, EI, WR, KN, OR, EIGH, EAR, PH, TI, and OE
⭐Spell words with the sound of /shŭn/ spelled TION, such as motion
⭐Learn how to add prefixes

Level 5:
⭐Learn phonograms SI, IE, OUGH, UI, GN, OUR, and CI
⭐Spell words with /ē/ spelled EI and IE, as in receive and achieve
⭐Learn how to add two suffixes to a word
⭐Form irregular plurals

Level 6:
⭐Learn phonograms MB, GU, and AUGH
⭐Spell words ending in IBLE and ABLE, such as flexible and available
⭐Learn additional suffixes such as AIN, IVE, TURE, ICE, and ATE and how to add the suffix 
     LY to C+l-e words
