TODAY, we can all can go inside and eat in any restaurant regardless of our skin colors. This was not always the case. It's important to understand why we can do that now. It's important to learn about the courageous activists who fought to end racial segregation, making it possible for ALL people to be served in restaurants. 
In this class, students will learn all about the sit-in movement that took place in the 1960's.  This happened during the Jim Crow era across the southern states in the USA. Students will understand what motivated these sit-ins and how they were effective in helping to end racial segregation at restaurants and lunch counters. We will have discussions about the segregation laws and how it negatively affected people of color. I will talk to students about what exactly sit-ins were and the different tactics civil rights activists used in the sit-in movement. Students will learn about civil disobedience and how this played a big role in helping activists fight for equal rights. They will also learn about some wonderful civil rights leaders who took part in these sit-ins. We will have discussions about some of the well known sit-in events that went on in the south. This class will be very informative and it also connects to my other African American classes. This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. Participation is encouraged but not required. This class could possibly go over 30 minutes, I think it's important to give each student the opportunity to speak and ask questions.
