(Prerequisite) REGULAR Adding and Subtracting Knowledge In this one time class the lesson students will learn is adding and subtracting decimals. Students will begin by taking notes on the steps and rules necessary to add and subtract decimals, students will learn to apply this to examples involving money. Students will learn that every number in the world includes a decimal, even if it's not visible, students will know where it could be placed without changing the original value of the...
The goal is to understand how numbers that include decimals are placed in order to be added or subtracted. Money has decimals, these problems are about money as well. We need money to take care of our needs so this is a real life lesson for every student out there.
This is a lesson have taught both in a public school with a class of 20-30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. I understand how students respond to it and it allows me to adjust my teaching style to individual needs.
