These tutoring sessions are tailored to your student’s specific strengths in order to enhance reading comprehension, grammar skills, and vocabulary knowledge, all critical for acing the ACT. Each session is tailored to the student’s specific needs, breaking down complex concepts into manageable lessons. This personalized course not only prepares you for the ACT but also boosts your overall language proficiency and confidence. What Will Be Taught? Every session is a customized journey through the essential components of the ACT English and Reading sections. We will cover: • Critical reading strategies for comprehension and analysis. • Key grammar rules and how to apply them. • Vocabulary building through context and word roots. • Practice with real ACT questions and passages. • Test-taking strategies to maximize your score. Tutoring Structure This course is designed to be both educational and engaging. We will meet once or twice a week for 55 minutes, with each session dedicated to a specific theme. Sessions will include: • Real text analysis, ensuring vocabulary and grammar learning is connected to authentic uses. • Interactive discussions, where you can share your insights and demonstrate your understanding. • Games and quizzes to solidify learning and add a fun twist to mastering the ACT content. • Video clips to provide real-world applications and deepen understanding of word usage and grammar. I recommend at least an 8-week course of study for most students. This is what an 8-week plan looks like in order to cover all the necessary content. Based on your student’s needs, this would be adjusted accordingly. Week 1: Mastering Command of Evidence: Textual Learn how to identify and analyze evidence within reading passages to support your answers. This lesson focuses on strategies to find and use textual evidence effectively, ensuring your answers are well-supported. Week 2: Decoding Words in Context Expand your vocabulary by learning how to determine the meaning of words based on the context in which they appear. This lesson covers strategies to infer meanings from surrounding text and enhances your understanding of nuanced vocabulary. Week 3: Central Ideas and Details: Uncovering the Core Develop skills to identify the main ideas and supporting details in reading passages. This lesson helps you distinguish between primary and secondary information, improving your ability to grasp the core message of texts. Week 4: Inferences: Reading Between the Lines Enhance your ability to make logical inferences from reading passages. This lesson focuses on understanding implied information and drawing conclusions that are not explicitly stated, a critical skill for the ACT. Week 5: Text Structure and Purpose: Dissecting the Blueprint Understand how to analyze the structure and purpose of different texts. This lesson covers various text structures (e.g., narrative, argumentative) and how to identify an author’s intent, aiding in comprehension and interpretation. Week 6: Command of Evidence: Quantitative Learn to integrate and interpret data from charts, graphs, and tables within reading passages. This lesson focuses on combining quantitative evidence with textual information to answer questions accurately. Week 7: Rhetorical Skills: Crafting Persuasive Arguments Develop your ability to analyze an author’s use of rhetoric and persuasive techniques. This lesson teaches you to identify rhetorical devices and understand their impact on the reader. Week 8: Transitions: Navigating Between Ideas Master the use of transitions to connect ideas smoothly within and between paragraphs. This lesson covers different types of transitional phrases and how they help in maintaining the flow of arguments, improving the coherence of your responses.
