INTRODUCTORY DISCOUNT 10% OFF. DETAILS IN TEACHER EXPERTISE Both semesters of 9th grade Language Arts are broken into two sections. This is second semester and you do not need 1st semester as a prerequisite. Because this is a homeschool class, much of the work is done outside of class. Students will be given weekly assignments that cover reading, writing, and reinforcement of literary concepts. In a flipped classroom such as this, the reading is done before the class, then discussed, and reinforced with lecture slide who and lessons. Topics: Elements of the short story and the novel; analytical, persuasive, and compare/contrast essays; vocabulary and verbal reasoning; Shakespeare, his audiences, and the Globe Theatre; understanding early modern English; memorizing a monologue or dialogue; Poetry and creating a poetry portfolio; The Iliad; Big Six Research skills and a research paper. CURRICULUM OVERVIEW Frequency: Twice weekly meetings with me (synchronous learning), independent/paced activities for parents to oversee. Focus Areas: Literature analysis Writing (narrative, analytical, argumentative) Grammar and vocabulary Research and speaking/listening skills Assessment: Mix of discussions, written assignments, quizzes, and a culminating project. With 20 years of experience teaching 9th-grade English, I’ve guided countless students to master critical skills in literature, reading comprehension, writing, and verbal reasoning.
This semester, your student will embark on a journey through timeless literature, thought-provoking discussions, and skill-building assignments. Twice weekly, I’ll work with your student live, helping them explore classic stories, develop strong writing techniques, and build confidence in their abilities. On the other days, you’ll have access to curated materials and guidance to keep the momentum going at home.
By the end of the semester, your student will not only earn high school credit equivalent to traditional schools but also grow in their ability to think critically, express ideas clearly, and tackle challenges head-on.
This isn’t just another English class—it’s a chance for your 9th grader to thrive while working with classic literature. Let’s work together to ensure they’re equipped for success now and in the future.

I need at least two students for this class to fly.
Due to my experience, experience, and the quality of the literature in the curriculum, my hourly rate is $75 per session
For the second student I offer a slight discount ; e.g., $75/hour + $25 for the second student = $100/session. Divide that by the two students and it's $50 session.
Because I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education and am a certificated K-12 teacher, most ESA / charter scholarships / state reimbursement programs that cover Outschool classes will cover my classes.
