Whether you call it urine, pee, wee or something else - most of us don't think twice about after we flush it down the toilet. Throughout history though, it's been a different story. People have used pee in many different ways. In this class, we will explore the history of this fascinating, but yucky, topic. We will learn about how Romans and Medieval people used pee in their lives, from dying their hair to cleaning. We'll learn about how alchemists tried (and failed) to use pee to make gold...
In this class, learners will: Learn about how pee was used in Roman times Learn about how pee was used in medieval times Learn how pee helped to win the American Revolution
I am a qualified teacher with a PhD in history. I have taught history to learners aged 3 up to the postgraduate level.

This class will be focused on pee and we will therefore be discussing this in class. Please ensure that you and your learner are comfortable with this before enrolling.
This class uses scholarship from both history and science, with an emphasis on the historical elements. In particular, the class uses research from Adam Hart-Davies, Emily Troscianko and Sally Magnusson. The class will also use contemporary images - largely portraits of key individuals, sections from medieval illuminated manuscripts and Roman artwork.
