This will be an engaging, hands on, sixth grade math class! We will learn new skills through slides, videos, lecture, partner work, and hands on activities. This is an ongoing class so each week is independent, meaning you can join at any time! We will often practice the material we learned that week with either a game or activity in class - each class has its own lesson with activities. I am a licensed teacher, and I have always loved teacher math! I also love to get to know the students in my class and allow them to get to know each other. As a teacher I understand the more I get to know my students and build a relationship with them the better the classroom environment becomes! I have been a teacher for nine years, and I am excited to teach your sixth grade student from the comfort of your home! Week1- August 28, 2023 Place value to hundred billions, and decimals to millionths + Compare Decimals Week 2- Intro to ratios Week3- Negative numbers, Place value, rounding, and absolute value Week3- Add and subtract positive and negative integers Week 4- Multiply and divide positive and negative integers. Week 5: Orders of operations, using negative integers Week 6: Order of operations with brackets Week7- Equivalent ratios/proportions Week 8: Find the least common multiple and the greatest common factor of whole numbers. Use them to solve problems with fractions (e.g., to find a common denominator to add two fractions or to find the reduced form for a fraction). Week 9: REVIEW WEEK - We will review integers, orders of operation, ratio and proportions this week! This will be helpful for students to review and practice over our break! Also, this allows new students to learn any new material. Week10- Add mixed numbers Week11 - Multiply/divide fractions Week12- Decimal place value review/add/subtract decimals/decimals to fractions Week13- Multiply decimals, use decimals in PEMDAS + Word Problems Week 14- Convert between any two representations of numbers (fractions, decimals, and precents) without the use of a calculator. Week 15 - Multiply percentages in equations Week 16: Calculate given percentages of quantities and solve problems involving discounts at sales, interest earned, and tips Week 17: End of semester projects!! - December 25-29th **********NO CLASS******** WINTER BREAK*********** Week 18-January 1- 5 **********NO CLASS******** WINTER BREAK*********** SECOND SEMESTER Starts January 8th 2024 Week 19 - January 8 Apply the correct order of operations and the properties of real numbers and comparing with inequalities ( 12 - 5x2 <> 15 - 5x3) Week 20- Solve one-step linear equations and inequalities in one variable and check the answers. Week 21- Write one-step equations with a variable, solve one step equations with negative numbers. Week 22- Use formulas with up to three variables to solve problems. Simplify equations Week 23- Find area and perimeter of rectangular shapes. Week 24- Area of Triangles, Use protractors to measure size of angles Week 25- Know common estimates of π (3.14), and use these values to estimate and calculate the circumference and the area of circles Week 26- Use strategies to find the surface area and volume of right prisms* and cylinders using appropriate units. SPRING BREAK March 4h-8th Week 27- Use the properties of complementary, supplementary, and vertical angles to solve problems involving an unknown angle. Justify solutions. Week 28- Draw the translation (slide) and reflection (flip) of shapes. Perform translations and reflections of shapes on graph paper. (We will review coordinate graph) Week 29- Mean, Median, Mode, Range Week 30- Use the concept of proportions Week 31- Telling time/Elapsed time Week 32 - Write formulas with up to three variables to solve problems. Week 33 - Solve problems involving linear functions with integer values. Write the equation and graph the resulting ordered pairs of integers on a grid Week 34- Organize and display single-variable data in appropriate graphs and stem and-leaf plots, and explain which types of graphs are appropriate for various data sets. Week 35 - Show all possible outcomes for compound events in an organized way and find the theoretical probability of each outcome Week 36 - Understand and represent probabilities as ratios, combined probability Week 37 - Long division into decimals instead of remainders, variables Week 38- yearly review
