This course will not disappoint your learner!! We are going to have a blast learning about science! This course is quarter 1 of 4 quarters that encompass 5th grade science. Unit 1Nature of ScienceNature of Science4 lessons4 WeeksWeek 1Lesson 1What is Science?Learn about science and the phenomenons around us. We will conduct a cotton candy lab/experiment and see how the air around us affects cotton candy.Week 2Lesson 2How Do Scientists Learn?Learn about the difference between investigations and experiments. We will conduct a Pop Rocks candy experiment with soda! Get ready for some fun and don't forget your safety goggles!Week 3Lesson 3How Can Scientists Learn from ObservationsLearners will learn about how scientists grow scientific knowledge by making observations and we will collect observations through a cookie lab.Week 4Lesson 4Performing a Controlled ExperimentBe prepared to get a little sticky as we perform a controlled experiment with gummy worms!Unit 2Space ScienceSpace Science4 lessons4 WeeksWeek 5Lesson 5What Objects are Part of the Solar System?We will explore our solar system and learn about everything that is in it, including our Sun/star, planets, asteroids and more!Week 6Lesson 6How do we Observe Objects in Our Solar System?We will learn about the technology that helps us learn about our solar system and complete an alien/planet project!Week 7Lesson 7What are Stars?We will learn about stars, including our Sun. I am a certified teacher and I've been teaching middle school comprehensive science since 2014 and I taught 5th-grade science many years prior to moving to middle school. I currently help design activities that support the 7th & 8th-grade curriculum for all of the science teachers and serve as a math and science instructional coach to K-5 elementary teachers. I will be incorporating reading and writing in this science course as well. I have a master's degree in reading and writing, and I am a firm believer in reading and writing in the content area.
