課堂經歷
In this 8-week course, we will quest together to achieve fourth grade level ELA (English Language Arts) skills corresponding to national standards. Knowing that each student comes from a unique background -- that includes schooling history (and recent policy changes), regional standards, personality, online engagement, individual talents, (among other things) -- I will especially strive to connect with each learner in a personal way. Conscious of these individual differences, I will help each learner make connections between skills they have already learned with the next level of reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, and grammar (wherever that next level may be). I will also help each learner to connect with our classroom of peers in the way that feels comfortable. I do this by creating an open, attentive, and supportive classroom environment where each learner is welcome to choose to share and collaborate in his or her own way. This course is can be used as the primary ELA curriculum or a supplemental course. Although it is titled part four (of four), students are welcome to join at any time without prerequisites. This course has a flexible refund policy, which means that you can receive a pro-rated refund if you need to withdraw at any time. Although students will be expected to complete writing projects outside of class, additional homework for our non-class school days is optional. Please let me know if you would appreciate assignments for your learner on independent study days. All homework that is submitted will receive feedback and encouragement. As the newly published author of the "Emotebook" and a freelance writer for over 20 years, I have relied on language arts skills as the building blocks of a happy career. For three of those years, I also worked full-time as an associate editor, which helped me gain real-world expertise in the nuances of English language arts. I am walking the language arts journey with my three children while homeschooling them, as well as with several other students in various grades. I am also bridging the gap between cultures by teaching English as a second language to hundreds of students online. I look forward to this language arts quest with you!
