In this ongoing class, students will review and reinforce their math skills through straightforward, explicit instruction and applied practice. Students will work on: *Multiplication strategies *Using estimation effectively *Long Division strategies *Interpreting the remainder *Fractions *Basic Operations with fractions *Word problems with multiplication, division, fractions The class will be fluid, meaning that more than one skill may be presented and additionally, students are encouraged to bring any questions they have from classwork, homework, etc. for assistance. While this is not individual tutoring, sharing problems that are confusing, challenging, or need to clarification is a great way to encourage peer feedback and communication and will most likely help others in the session as well. Students will be encouraged to provided feedback to each other in the session. Ongoing Class Schedule Outline Week 1: Multiplication Strategies Week 2 :Using Estimation Effectively Week 3: Long Division Week 4: Interpreting Remainders Week 5: Adding & Subtracting Fractions with like denominators Week 6: Finding LCM/Adding & Subtracting Fractions with unlike denominators Week 7: Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions Week 8: Operations with Mixed Numbers Students should have the following for each session: 2 sharpened pencils 1 notebook or folder with paper a few colored pencils or highlighters (optional but helpful)

Students will improved their understanding of grade 4 and 5 math concepts as well as deepen their application and understanding of the NCTM 8 Mathematical Practices.
