This is a 1-on-1 tutoring class. I will be utilizing the Spectrum Reading and Spectrum Language Arts Grade 3 workbooks to introduce new stories.  If you’d like to choose another grade level, please let me know. I teach this class in the 1st-5th grade levels. All the stories stand alone and are independent from each other. They cover various topics. I will be working with the students to answer questions after each short story. This is great practice to help your child write in complete sentences, practice penmanship, use correct capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and enrich their vocabulary! Students will increase their critical thinking skills and become better readers. Students will read sentences/paragraphs and we will answer questions together. Fiction and non-fiction passages are covered and they will learn to identify the main idea, focus on key ideas and details, and integrate knowledge and ideas from the stories to answer questions. They will also gain an understanding of parts of speech and sentences, grammar and usage, and capitalization/punctuation. This is great practice even for students struggling with reading. Other topics included in the workbooks are parts of speech such as adjectives, articles, adverbs, conjunctions, abstract nouns, pronouns, and verbs. Statements, commands, subject, predicate, and combining sentences are also covered. Subject-verb agreement, contractions, negative and double negative words, possessives, comparative adjective and adverbs, synonyms, antonyms, and homophones are also included in the workbooks. Students should have knowledge of blending, and letter/word correspondence to help with reading. The students must have these books with them for this class so we can work together on the exercises. I love to interact with students one-on-one and see them gain confidence in their skills, ensure they feel welcome, understand the material at their own pace, and have fun while learning!
