課堂經歷

During these five days, students will learn the basics of computer science using Code.org, Makecode and Scratch.

Our philosophies at TechWise Academy:
1) Embrace Mistakes - Coding provides immediate feedback to the learner to correct any mistakes along the way. Mistakes are part of the process of learning.
2) Enjoy Learning - We use fun characters and games to make the learning fun for your student. We know that students learn better when they enjoy the process.
3) Explore Computer Science - We want to expose the problem solving techniques used in computer science to every child. We know every student will not be programmers one day; however, we want to give tools that can be used across any field of study or career.

Below is a rough breakdown of what we will cover over the course of the class:

Day 1 - What is programming/coding? What types of things do programmers create?
-Introduction to the Code.org platform: How to login with your credentials from class, how to view your progress.
-Additionally working through one of the Hour of Code puzzles on Code.org.

Day 2 - Algorithm Step-by-step directions in order to complete a task or a goal.
-Potential offline activity during class to prime and reinforce
-Start building a playable game on Microsoft's Makecode

Day 3 - Decomposition - Breaking a complex problem into smaller problems.
-Finish working on the game from Day 2 if needed
-If extra time, build a second game on Makecode

Day 4 - Introduction to Scratch - How is this similar/different from Code.org and Makecode?
-Overview of the Scratch platform: How to create a project, add/create backgrounds, sprites (characters), and scenes.
-Make an animation on Scratch

Day 5 - Abstraction - Removing the details of a solution to make the solution work for other problems.
-Review Scratch basics
-Create a playable game on Scratch
學習目標
Students will learn how to make their own games or animations on various coding platforms through using the four parts of Computational Thinking. Additionally, students will become more confident in their problem solving and coding abilities.

其他詳情

父母的引導和規範
Students should have two devices- one for the classroom (Zoom call) and the other for the coding platform. We will be using three outside sites that are completely free. The sites include Code.org, Scratch and Microsoft's Makecode. Each platform will allow your learner to create animations or games using block based coding. Code.org and Scratch will have logins created by the instructor. Makecode does not allow for the instructor to create accounts but an adult present at the learning location can help the student make a free account by signing up through Google or Microsoft. https://code.org/ https://arcade.makecode.com/ https://scratch.mit.edu/
供應清單
Students should have a separate tablet/computer to use for coding and a device for the online classroom.

Computers are encouraged to be used for the coding platform while a tablet or a computer is preferred for the online classroom.
