課堂經歷
This class is a great introduction to the fundamentals of drawing realistically! We'll learn how to draw basic forms such as a sphere, cone, cube, pyramid and cylinder and how to use shading and blending to create depth. Learners will also explore some amazing artists and get to showcase their personal creativity! This is the FLEX or Flexible Schedule version of my live 3-D drawing class. There are no live meetings for this class. The material will be posted weekly and you can view it and create your drawings during the week at your convenience. Each week for 5 weeks students will be guided through drawing a different shape with demonstration videos that I have pre-recorded, along with presentations and discussions about vocabulary, new concepts and different artists. Students will upload their artwork each week as a photo or video in the Outschool classroom and will receive individual teacher feedback, encouragement and helpful advice about their drawings every week. I reply quickly to submissions with specific feedback and am happy to offer extra individual assistance whenever needed. In addition, a virtual scavenger hunt will be posted each week with every student invited to upload a photo or create a video about their discovery to aid the group in meeting our challenge! Day 1: We'll begin by learning about the meaning of Value, Shading, and Blending and see how artists such as M.C Escher use these techniques to create depth in 2-D artwork to create the illusion of three dimensions. We will learn how to create a value scale and use shading to make five different values with pencils and then use a blending stump (or Q-tip) to blend our values. We will then begin to work step by step to draw a cone and use shading and blending to make it appear 3-D. Each week students will upload their artwork to the Outschool classroom page for feedback and are encouraged to give a helpful and encouraging response to other classmates' drawings. Day 2: We'll review the concepts from the previous class, look at another amazing artwork by M.C. Escher and then learn how to draw a cylinder and a pyramid and use shading and blending to create depth in our shapes. Day 3: We will explore some of the mind boggling artworks of the Surrealist Rene Magritte and learn some techniques for drawing a circle freehand before shading our circle to transform it into a sphere. Day 4: We will learn how to draw and shade a cube and also look at some options for adding imaginative or more classic backgrounds to our work. Learners will brainstorm and create a few different thumbnail sketches of their ideas for their backgrounds. Day 5: I will demonstrate different techniques for creating a light source in our backgrounds and we will create value scales using other media such as paint and colored pencils. Learners will work with the materials of their choice to make a creative background for their artwork. Each student is encouraged to share their final masterpiece with the class!

Hello everyone! I am Katee Gebo and I'm passionate about teaching art! My number one priority is to nurture the personal creativity of my students and foster their love for art! I want every child to be confident in the knowledge that they are already wonderful artists and have amazing ideas to share through their art! (This is absoluteIy true - I am blown away and inspired by the ideas and creativity of my learners every day!)
I have been a certified art teacher for 19 years and have a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art and a Master's degree in Art Education. I am also a working artist. My favorite media has always been oil paint, although I have really been enjoying exploring my work with ink and watercolors too!
I love to use art to foster children’s natural critical and creative thinking and communication skills. While creating art, we will also be learning about different artists, historical events, and different cultures. I believe that almost anything can be taught through art in a fun and engaging manner. I have loved seeing the knowledge, thoughtfulness, communication skills, artistic skills, and creativity of my students blossom during my art classes at Virtual da Vinci Online Art Academy, and now at Outschool!
As a teacher, I am much more concerned with the process, not the product. I often focus on abstract and non-objective art, (especially with younger students) and a variety of artists, so that children do not become overly concerned with imitating the representational art of adults and feel discouraged if their work is not realistic. I work on skills for realism as well, but I focus on learning how to observe carefully what you really see rather than a "how to draw" or "directed drawing" approach so that children gain the skills and confidence they need to create their own unique art that is meaningful and personal to them.
My goal in teaching art is for children to learn to view themselves as creative artists with interesting ideas, develop skills and self-confidence in their abilities, learn how to express themselves visually, and to be persistent, make mistakes, take chances, and, most of all, have fun!!!
