* Students should know the letter sounds before signing up for this class. In this 8 week class, students will learn ELA skills taught in 2nd grade. In first quarter, we will be working on reading foundations. We will read and write each day in class. Please bring a piece of paper and pencil to each class. Students will also need markers or crayons for some classes. Day 1: On the first day of class we will do introductions and review skills taught in 1st grade. We will practice word families and rhyming words. Day 2: Reading and writing sight words. Students will need markers/crayons and paper for this class. Day 3: Short and long vowel sounds Day 4: Silent E Day 5 : Vowel teams Day 6: Consonant blends Day 7: Consonant blends and digraphs Day 8: R Controlled vowels Day 9: Sight words Day 10: Diphthongs Day 11: Parts of speech: Nouns Day 12: Parts of speech: Verbs Day 13: Parts of speech: Adjectives Day 14: Parts of speech: Adverbs Day 15: Parts of speech: Pronouns Day 16: Identifying and writing complete sentences (fragments, run-ons, and complete sentences) Day 17: Reading and writing using quotation marks Day 18: Writing with proper nouns Day 19: homophones Day 20: irregular plural nouns Day 21: alphabetical order Day 22: Subject and predicate Day 24: Syllables Day 24: Sight words

2.RF.3.A.a decoding multisyllabic words in context by applying common letter-sound correspondences including: single letters, consonant blends, consonant and vowel digraphs and vowel diphthongs
2.RF.3.A.b distinguishing long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one syllable words
2.RF.3.A.d decoding words with vowel diphthongs
2.RF.3.A.e decoding words with vowel digraphs
2.RF.3.A.h using common syllable patterns to decode words including r-controlled vowels
2.RF.3.A.i reading irregularly spelled high-frequency words
2.W.1.C.b edit for language conventions
