父母的引導和規範
We will read the novel Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. This novel addresses bigotry against Muslims, but we will talk about how it is always wrong to treat people badly regardless of their race, religion, gender, beliefs, etc. It is 240 pages and consists of 51 short chapters.
The novel includes some content that may upset some learners. This includes a scene where someone throws eggs at a house. A passing car of angry men shout "Muslims, get out!" A boy carves "LEAVE" on the tree in a family's yard. We will address how these types of actions are always wrong and how students should always tell an adult if they ever witness these types of events.
The novel takes place after the events of September 11, 2001. We will briefly discuss these events during class to help students understand the concept of the novel. We will talk about how the actions of some individuals does not and cannot ever represent an entire group of people, including, but not limited to, a religion, race, class, ethnic group, gender, etc.
