Japanese Fashion has a rich history! The Japanese strongly hold onto their traditions and history - Japanese traditional clothing is an important part of their lives. Traditional Japanese clothing 和服 (wafuku) is still popular due to the unique heritage and amazing culture. Dozens of traditional Japanese clothing styles are widely worn for festivals and holidays. Western style clothing 洋服(yōfuku) was mixed with Japanese traditional clothing to create a new fashion culture. Fashion interpretations and styles morphed into contemporary Japanese street fashion couture, such as Harajuku Style. Cosplay (wearing costumes of Anime characters) is considered an art form in Japan. There are many famous cosplayers and events for fans. In this group, we will explore the uniqueness of Japanese fashion. We will uncover its history, past influences and trends, present and even the future of Japanese fashion. Japanese words (vocabulary) of the fashion types will be presented. MATERIALS: Members can look at related materials about Japanese fashion which will be periodically provided, such as articles, presentations, and videos. Teacher Lynn completed her Master’s degree in Oita, Japan. She was a teaching assistant for Japanese middle school, high school, and university in-person classes in Japan. She has been living in Japan for 5 years. Teacher Lynn not only intensely studied the Japanese language, but fell in love with Japanese culture and discovered the passion for sharing such a beautiful language with students. She has been a private Japanese online tutor for over 2 years.
