In this class, learners will discuss chapters of the Zoey and Sassafras book series. We will focus on reading comprehension as well as letting students have an opportunity to share their opinions of the chapters. Learners should read the assigned chapters before class, we will not read aloud during class but instead will focus on discussion and comprehension questions. Students will need to obtain their own copy of these books. They are sold at bookstores, on Amazon, or can be found at most local libraries. Afterwards, we will complete a hands on science, art, or language arts activity! This class will be an interactive way for students to share their love of reading and science! Each class will only focus on the two assigned chapters and will be a stand alone lesson, but these books are easy to read so you can jump read previous chapters if needed and jump into class anytime! Week of January 26th - February 1st: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapter 15 and 16 Solar Smores Oven - Pizza box with opening cut in lid (will provide picture) - Masking tape - Black paper - Aluminum foil - Plastic wrap - Smore supplies (graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows) - Wooden dowel - Scissors Week of February 2nd - February 8th: Monsters and Mold Chapters 1 and 2 Mold - 1 slice of bread cut into 4 pieces - 4 ziploc sandwich bags - Permanent marker - Water Week of February 9th - February 15th: Monsters and Mold Chapters 3 and 4 Germs and Mold - Apple cut into 4 slices (do not let learners touch before class!) - 4 jars or containers with lids - Hand soap and water nearby Week of February 16th - February 22nd: Week of August 20th - August 26th: Monsters and Mold Chapters 5 and 6 Playdough - 1 Cup Flour - ½ Cup Salt - ½ Cup Water - 2 tsp Vegetable Oil - ½ tsp Food Coloring - Bowl - Spoon - Covered Surface Week of February 23rd - March 1st: Monsters and Mold Chapters 7 and 8 Peppermint Volcano - 3 cups of vinegar - 3 different scented extracts (vanilla, almond, peppermint, lavendar, etc) - 3 containers with 2 tablespoons baking soda - tray - (extra vinegar and baking soda) Week of March 2nd - March 8th: Monsters and Mold Chapters 9 and 10 Rocking Cat - Paper plate - Black Paint - Black Paper - Pink Paper - White Paper - Google Eyes - Scissors - Glue Week of March 9th - March 15th: Monsters and Mold Chapters 11 and 12 Ants - PDF - Scissors - Glue Week of March 16th - March 22nd: Monsters and Mold Chapters 13 and 14 Monster Balloon - Empty plastic water bottle (must be able to fit balloon over the rim) - Balloon - 1/3 bottle filled with vinegar - 2 Tablespoons of baking soda - Tray - Permanent Marker - Funnel Week of March 23rd - March 29th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 1 and 2 Stream bugs and Viewer - One half-gallon milk carton or 2 liter soda bottle - Scissors - Waterproof, strong tape (e.g., duct tape) or a sturdy rubber band *This class will continue through all the Zoey and Sassafras books - students can join at any time! The books are easy reads and don't build on each other*

Supply list will be provided one week in advance or upon enrollment. Students must obtain their own copy of the current Zoey and Sassafras book listed in class description.

Hello to Everyone! My name is Miss Meghan and I can’t wait to meet your child. I enjoy teaching a variety of classes for preschool and early elementary ages.
I hold a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. At the beginning of my career, I worked extensively with children with autism in home settings designing programs to help students access the world around them in an empowering way. After my oldest daughter was born, I became a licensed childcare provider creating a home away from home for many children to grow and learn. When my youngest daughter was born, I decided it was time to explore other options and that is how I landed at Outschool. I am so grateful for this opportunity and love meeting new learners from all over the world.
I have a passion for instilling a love of learning in young children through exposure, messy play, and fun! I strongly believe that letting children delve into learning at their own level and allowing for different types of learning styles sets children up for a life long learning journey.
In addition to teaching on Outschool, I also homeschool my two daughters who are my pride and joy. I feel so grateful to have a career that I love that also affords me the opportunity to spend time with my own children as well. In my free time, I enjoy art, brainstorming new lesson ideas, cross stitch, and reading!
