This course teaches absolute beginner students the three most basic concepts of Java Programming: 
- standard output
- variables and
- standard input.
Since even setting up a Java coding environment requires a lot of advanced knowledge and understanding, I will skip the set-up part (as most IDEs do it for you anyway), and jump right into coding.

My class can be seen as broken into three main sections: 
- The first section will be the actual teaching of the new concepts, 
- The second section will give the students the opportunity to apply this new information to simple projects we will work on together as a class.
- And finally, there will be a bit of time near the end of class for students to work on a short but very fun individual project, with assistance from me as needed.
Though this is quite a bit packed into one and a half hours, I will give lots of room for the students to ask questions, interact with each other and so on! Programming is a skill that is best learnt by doing, but I also spend a lot of time making sure the students fully grasp what each of the concepts mean because I believe understanding is just as important.

Again, please note that this course is aimed at beginners. The concepts covered will be pretty unfamiliar to students who've taken courses like Blockly or Scratch before, but this class may be a bit boring for people who can already code in similar languages like Python, C or C++. 
In addition, please also note that Java is the most popular programming languages in the industry and thus is a bit more complicated than the likes of Python. The three concepts this course covers, though simple, are applied very specifically and may be a bit too much for your nine year old to handle. I expect mostly middle school aged students to enroll.
