In this ongoing class, "Young Writers Find Stories in Their Every Day Lives", we will be learning to write a story using pictures. Using a modified writing workshop format we will use pictures to "write" stories, remembering drawing is writing at this age. Students will be encouraged to write true stories from their experiences where they are the main character. The teacher will model for the students how to write their stories. So often young children have a hard time expressing themselves....
Students will improve their understanding of how their life experiences are stories that can be written down. Students are not assigned any homework but will be encouraged to add to their stories or write more stories that they can add to their writing folder.
I have 12 years experience as an elementary school teacher. Throughout my teaching career I've worked with PreK-12th grade, and spent over half that time teaching early childhood often in a multigrade setting. I received my M.Ed. in Literacy and went on to successfully use writer's workshop in my classrooms. I have had so much fun over the years watching my students become writers. As I continued to become more proficient, opportunities opened up that allowed me to offer professional development workshops and share my knowledge of writer's workshop with fellow teachers. Outside of the traditional classroom I have also had the privilege of homeschooling my children and introducing writing to them through a writer's workshop format.
