In this ongoing club, aspiring poets will learn a new tool used by professional poets and build their own creative writing. Each week will break down a different genre and term related to poetry by analyzing famous poems. First, the class will begin with introductions to allow students to get to know each other. Then, we will have a lesson about a new tool poets use in their work. We will see this tool in action by analyzing a poem that utilizes that tool. Afterwards, we will cover the basics of collaborative critique. Then, students will form breakout groups where they are encouraged to share their work and offer critique on their classmate’s pieces. Week of January 19-25: Hyperbole Week of January 26- February 1: Blackout Poetry Week of February 2-7: Personification Week of February 9-16: Haiku

Students will be able to effectively use poetic devices in their writing.Students will demonstrate their knowledge of helpful critique by verbally offering their own critique on peer’s work.
