In Part 2 of the Young Author Series, learners will continue the work they began in Part 1. The goal of this class is for learners to continue working on their writing so that they can complete their novel. This class is structured in a monthly format where focus topics will carry through the month and switch for the next month. However, this class is also learner directed which means that learners may need a shift in focus; therefore the following outline is simply a basic guideline that is flexible to the needs of the learner. CLASS OUTLINE: Week of March 13th through Week of March 27th: Novel writing - focus on writing and word count goals, make progress on the story Week of April 3rd through Week of April 24th: Story Building and Writing Mechanics - take a break from writing, focus on developing external concepts for the story (character development, world building, etc); discuss and practice writing mechanics, grammar, etc Weeks of May 1st through Week of May 29th: Novel writing Week of June 5th through Week of June 26th: Story Building/Writing Mechanics Week of July 3rd through Week of July 31st: Novel Writing Week of August 7th through Week of August 28th: Story Building/Writing Mechanics Week of September 4th through Week of September 25th: Novel Writing At the time the learner completes their first draft of the novel, class focus will shift to editing concepts, beta readers, and self-publishing processes. The end goal of this class is for learners to be able to complete and publish their own novel. This class is intended to continue for as long as the learner needs to meet their goals. Classes are one-on-one to give individual attention to each young author. My job is to guide and mentor each learner as they go through their novel writing journey. I will walk them through each step of the process, support their varied writing styles, answer any questions, and encourage them to follow their personal ideas. Classes are intended to be 1 hour long but may run a shorter timeframe depending on the needs of the learner. Learners will need to have completed the Young Author Series: Part 1 - Planning & Writing class before they can move on to this class.
