Each class will focus on one genre. We will analyze books that offer great writing skills that fit each genre. I will use the various teaching strategies that I have developed over the sixteen years of teaching guided writing. Here is an overview of each lesson as well as what genre will be taught each day. LESSON FORMAT -introduce and define the components of the focus genre for the class (informative, persuasive, opinion, narrative) -use exemplary author's books to identify exceptional writing skills for the focus genre -I model writing by using an organizer to guide students for the focus genre -the student and I will develop their own writing plan using strategies I modeled with the organizer -students write on their own with my guidance -share out student work at the end **most writing will not be complete in full at the end of class and can be completed on their own for independent assignment as a follow up for their next class that week with me Day 1 -Narrative Day 2 -Opinion Day 3-Informative (expository) Day 4-Persuasive
