4 lessons//4 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Understanding the Victims
- In this week, students will learn about the earlier events of the Nuremberg Laws, Kristallnacht, deportations, and the T4 program. We will cover who was targeted by the Nazi Party and what the motives were behind their actions. - We will answer the questions: "Why didn't they leave before all of this happened?", "Why were the Jewish people targeted?", "How did other countries respond to the refugees?"
 Week 2
Lesson 2
The Ghettos and the Perpetrators
- In this week, students will learn about the different types of ghettos and what life was like during life in the ghetto. This will also cover the deportation process and the 'promise' of resettlement. Students will also get a look at who was behind these awful acts and who participated in attacking the victims. - We will answer the questions: "Were people forced to participate in the Holocaust?", "Did people try to resist in the ghettos?"
 Week 3
Lesson 3
The Camps
- In this week, students will learn about the different types of camps (transit, labour, concentration, and extermination). In this class, students will get an opportunity to learn about specific victims and their journeys. We will examine what life was like in the labour and concentration camps. - We will answer the questions: "What was a typical day like for a victim in the camps?", "How were they able to survive?", "Could you escape from the camps?"
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Death Marches, Liberation, the Nuremberg Trials
- In this final week, students will learn about what happened when the Allies started to discover the camps and began to learn about what really was happening under the Nazis. We will also focus on the trials that tried the biggest war criminals of the Holocaust. - We will answer the questions: "Were all people responsible for the Holocaust put on trial?", "What happened to the survivors after they were liberated?", "Why is it important to remember the Holocaust?"
Students will have an understanding of the events that led to the Holocaust and how it shaped this time in history.
Students will also gain an understanding of who the victims were and the stories they left behind.
Students will be able to differentiate between the different types of camps and ghettos and have an understanding of the main vocabulary associated with the Holocaust.
I am a certified teacher with a degree in history and I have studied the topic of the Holocaust extensively. I have taken courses that are focused on the Holocaust which has provided me with a thorough understanding of the events, people, and impacts that occurred as a result of the Holocaust. I am willing to answer any questions prior to the class about what students can expect if they are concerned about the sensitivity of the topic.
Students may wish to take notes in class.
The Holocaust is a very sensitive topic. Discussions will contain information about particular experiences of victims of the Holocaust but will be censored to avoid graphic details. There will be no images displayed that are overly graphic and conversation on particularly sensitive issues such as any torture, medical experimentation, or graphic forms of death will not be discussed in detail as I believe that is something for older students to decide for themselves if they want to know more about. This class is intended to educate students about the experiences of the victims from the earliest changes in the laws that took away rights, to the liberation of the camps. Please do not hesitate to reach out and ask for more specific information if you have any concerns.
