세계사 - 주간 시간 여행 수업!

This is a unique approach to history class. We will be exploring history from various times and places around the world. This includes a wide range of topics, from woolly mammoths to the bubonic plague, moon landings, and even some unusual old medical practices. This diverse range of topics is designed to keep the students interested and engaged in the subject matter.

The ultimate goal of this class is to foster a love for learning and to show students that history doesn't have to be stiff and boring. It is my hope that your child will leave the class with a newfound interest in history and an understanding of the valuable lessons that can be learned from studying the past.

JANUARY
Week of January 7 - Prehistory - Neanderthals and the Ice Age - Human tools, animals and glaciers. Natural History Museum: report on wooly mammoths. 
Week of January 14 - Prehistory - Stone Age: Stone tools, invention of writing systems, and fossils. 
Week of January 21- Ancient Egypt - Pyramids, animal symbolism, and Cleopatra.

Week of January 28 - Bronze age - Agriculture and architecture. Domesticated animals - Caprines were the most common livestock, followed closely by pig, cattle, dogs, and foxes! Plus, the oldest beads made of snails.


FEBRUARY
Week of February 7 - Ancient Greek/Rome - Famous historical figures such as Alexander the Great, Spartan army, and Persian empire. 
Week of February 14 - Ancient Greek architecture, pottery, art, and a fun mythology lesson on Greek monsters! 
Week of February 21 - Julius Caesar, gladiators, and the Roman Republic. Roman Aqueducts and what is archaeology lesson. 
Week of February 28 - Medieval period - Castles, dragons, knights and kings, oh my! - Watching a clip from The Sword in the Stone.


MARCH
Week of March 7 - History of Vikings. Ships, artifacts, and weird recipes! Fun fact: Did you know Vikings liked to go skiing? 
Week of March 14 - Renaissance - What were the Dark Ages? The term "Dark Ages" is used to describe the Early Middle Ages (roughly 5th–10th centuries) often characterized as a time of economic, intellectual, and cultural decline. Also, do you know they had animal court?? Yes, they put animals on trial for suspected crimes!
Week of March 21 - Renaissance European literature and art history. Leonardo da Vinci anyone?
Week of March 28 - Science and discoveries (the printing press, the microscope, the telescope, eyeglasses, and clocks.) Bio on Polish mathematician and astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus.


APRIL
Week of April 7 - Early Modern - British and European history 1700-1850
Industrial Revolution - the transition from creating goods by hand to using machines.  Steam power, communication, and transportation. Fun facts: The growth of schools and gossip coffeehouses in Britain! 
Week of April 14 - ‘Microhistory’.  What might the study of small, seemingly insignificant details, people and places reveal about larger historical trends, events and debates?  Examples of the 'micro-historical' study of individuals, families, communities, incidents, processes, rituals and more.  
Week of April 21 - Early Modern China - Ming dynasty. 10 Facts about the Ming Dynasty. 360 degree virtual tour of The Great Wall of China.
Week of April 28 - Medicine through the years. Pandemics such as bubonic plague.


MAY
Week of May 7 - Trivia Week! Weird history trivia week! This includes weird laws, crazy stories, and the tales of unbelievable people!
Week of May 14 - Modern Era - Cold War - Why did it start, how long did it last for, and what was the outcome? Great Depression - Wall Street crash and great depression recipes. How did food differ then than it does now?
Week of May 21 - Vietnam War, World War I, and II. We will make a three set venn diagram to compare and contrast the three wars. Why they started, who was involved, how long they lasted, and territory. 
Week of May 28 - Industrial Revolution continued - Modern day inventions and technology. 
(artificial intelligence, energy storage, nanotechnology, and 3-D printing.)



This class does not deep dive into any one particular culture or group. We stay on high-level topics and facts. During my time in college, I took several history classes that I've pulled from to create this unique curriculum. I've also taken many liberal arts classes on perspective and social psychology which allow me to teach history in a non-biased and multidisciplinary way incorporating a multitude of perspectives. We will be looking at history through different historical lenses: social, political, and economic and how that applies to the thematic categories: emotional intelligence, self-care, career connections, and ethics.
