RJ Palacio의 Wonder, 책 연구

In this class we will read and discuss the highly popular book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio.  We will meet 2X a week for 7 weeks.  The discussions will allow us to delve into literature elements such as; comprehension, character, theme, plot development, etc. We will also discus the precepts within the book, looking at themes such as: the importance of kindness;  perseverance; bravery, etc. Each class will have background elements such as videos, pictures, and realia to increase the comprehension of the story.
 Week One:  August Part 1
 Class 1: Watch Natalie Merchant's song "Wonder" that inspired the book. Discuss 
 vocabulary and background for the first reading assignment.  Assign pages 1 - 26
 Class 2: Discuss pages 1-26. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next 
 reading assignment.  Assign pages 27 - 50.

Week Two: August Part 1
Class 1: Discuss pages 27-50. Discuss vocabulary, precepts, and background for the next reading assignment.  Assign pages 51-80.
Class 2: Discuss pages 51-80. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.  Introduce part 2: Via. Assign pages 81-117.

Week Three: Via/ Summer
Class 1:  Discuss pages 81-117. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.  Introduce part 3: Summer. Listen to "Beautiful" by Christine Aguilar. Assign pages 118-132.
Class 2: Discuss pages 118- 132. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment. Introduce Part 4: Jack.  Assign pages 133-157 

Week Four: Jack
Class 1: Discuss pages 133-157 Discus vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.  Assign pages 158- 185.
Class 2 Discuss pages 158-185. Discus vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment. Introduce Part 5: Justin.  Assign pages 186- 204. 

Week Five: Justin
Class 1: Discuss pages 186-204. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.  Introduce August Part 6. Assign pages 205-234
Class 2: .Discuss pages 205-234. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment. Introduce Part 7: Miranda. Assign pages 235-248.

Week Six: Miranda
Class 1:  Discuss pages 235-248. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.  Introduce Part 8: August. Assign pages 248-274.
Class 2: Discuss pages 248-274. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.  Assign pages 275-293.

Week Seven: August
Class 1 : Discuss pages 275-293. Discuss vocabulary, precepts and background for the next reading assignment.   Assign pages 294-315.
Class 2  Discuss pages 294-315. Discuss vocabulary, precepts.  Culminating activity: Make a mini poster using a quote that was given in the book.  

Each class will be presented with Google slides. We will discuss vocabulary through slides, games, and art. The precepts in the book will be discussed during class and the background information will be in forms of music, pictures, and realia.
