주당 1시간. I offer optional educational materials available in the classroom after class as a learning extension. It is optional, but learners can post it in the classroom to share if they are interested. Let me know if you would like to receive a grade for your work. You can post it or email it to me via the classroom. This class and its activities can provide a great way to develop, enrich or follow a learner's interests, as well as supplementing any afterschool or homeschool learning program.

수업 소개

*All of the content presented in this animal science class is factual and has been researched through at least three current scientific resources and aligns with Next Generation Science and Common Core ELA standards-based curriculum guides. (CCSS for speaking/listening standards and NGSS for science standards.) *

Welcome to Wildlife Science: The Speed of Cheetahs!

Cheetahs are characterized as having the ability to run fast. With an average of 68 to 75 mph for short sprints, Cheetahs have many adaptations and physical characteristics that allow them to accelerate to these super speeds in seconds.

OBJECTIVE: In this wildlife science class, students will learn important facts about the science behind the HOW and WHY specific physical characteristics and adaptations of a Cheetah allow for its speed and how this ability impacts their daily life and survival. This class and its activities can provide a great way to develop, enrich or follow a learner's interests, as well as supplementing any afterschool or homeschool learning program.

*DURING CLASS:
For the lesson, I will be using an onscreen presentation that I created with photos and informational text. In addition, I expand the educational content by integrating elements of math, geography and vocabulary. As I present the content of the lesson, I will be asking students guided questions about the material. I will answer student questions after every 3-4 slides. I will stop and ask, "Are there any questions so far?" Students can raise their hands with any questions about the lesson so far. This allows me to pace the class so I can reserve the last few minutes for questions, reflection and student sharing.

*ACTIVITY SHEETS:
During class, we will identify by labeling, matching or coloring the physical characteristics of an African Cheetah that allow it to reach high speeds. I will be displaying it onscreen during the activity. These activity sheets will be available for download in the classroom. If you can't print, students can bring paper to draw their own, or just follow along onscreen.

I try to pace the class so I can reserve the last few minutes for questions, reflection and student sharing. This is a fun type of closing activity that helps students organize and reflect what they have learned. There will also be additional educational materials available in the classroom after class for extended learning.

*MUTING:
These classes can have up to 5 to 6 learners, so students will need to know how to locate and use the MUTE control on their device as we will be muted during the lesson to control audio static, echo and background distractions for the group.

*QUESTIONS:
The lesson unfolds information much like a video or book, so most questions will be answered as we go along. However, I will stop to check for questions about the current material every 3 to 4 slides, so students can raise their hands and then unmute when called on for their question. Students can also use the CHAT feature to type in questions or comments or answers to questions. I do try to pace the class so I can reserve the last few minutes for most questions, reflection and student sharing.

*Important Outschool Reminders:
*Per Outschool Privacy Policy, each Learner participating in class is required to be enrolled.
*Per Outschool Privacy Policy, please make sure the name on the Learner's device matches the name on their account so they can be admitted from the waiting area.

*Learner Supply List:
1. Print Pack: (attached to the welcome message in the classroom and visible if you are logged in as the LEARNER) Contains the activity sheets for identifying (by labeling, matching or coloring) the characteristics of an African Cheetah that allow it to reach high speeds. If you can't print, students can bring paper and draw their own, or just follow along onscreen.
2. Paper (example: notebook or loose paper)
3. Pencils or Crayons or Markers

AFTER CLASS:
1. A Certificate, Fact and Vocabulary sheet and any additional educational materials for learning extension will be available in the classroom as a download after class.
2. **Also, after class, a link to a fun, simple test-your-knowledge Kahoot quiz will be shared in the comment section on the classroom page. This is optional and NOT a part of the live class experience. Younger learners might need help with reading and answering. It is a private link, no account necessary. **

I have a BA in Elementary Education and my credentials are uploaded to Outschool. I taught classroom science, art and language arts to both preschool and elementary aged students for almost twenty years before coming to the Outschool online platform. As a child, I first developed a strong love of nature and animals through books and hands-on experiences. As a teacher, I'm constantly reading, researching and learning everything I can about wild animal conservation and the natural world.
