Food is an important part of our daily lives. But how were some dishes created? That's what learners will learn in this class, while making and eating the dishes in class. Learners will need access to a kitchen in all but the first class and may need adult supervision or assistance in class. A list of supplies for each week will be posted in the classroom and for many classes the recipes will be sent to the parents ahead of time so they can determine whether or not their learner will need assistance.

Topics covered:
Week 1: 1800s
Food: None, but learners can bring one or two foods to eat during class. We will be learning how to set a formal table
Supplies: 1 Normal plate, 1 Soup Bowl, 1 small plate, 2 glasses, 1 coffee/tea cup and saucer, 5 forks (preferably of different sizes), 4 knives (preferably of different sizes), 2 spoons (preferably of different sizes)

Week 2: 1950s
Food: Ice Cream soda
Supplies: Ice Cream and Soda (or any carbonated drink), glass and spoon

Week 3: 1700s
Food: Proper Tea
Supplies: Tea bags, hot water, tea cup and saucer

Week 4: Ancient Times #1
Food: Pizza
Supplies: Oven (to bake pizza in) preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, bread, tomato sauce, cheese, any toppings learner would like to add, cookie sheet

Week 5: Ancient times #2
Food: Ice Cream
Supplies: 1 large zipper-top plastic bag, 1 small zipper-top plastic bag, (Regular zipper top plastic bags are fine, but freezer bags are better), enough ice cubes to fill the large bag 1/4 to 1/2 full. salt, milk, vanilla, sugar, a towel. 

Week 6: 1930s
Food: Chocolate Chip Cookies
Supplies: Oven (to bake cookies in) preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, measuring cups, measuring spoons, large bowl, mixing spoon, cookie sheets, all-purpose flour, baking soda salt, softened Butter, sugar, brown sugar,  vanilla, large Eggs, semi-sweet chocolate chips, chopped nuts (Optional)
