This Debate Club meets weekly for group debates on topics chosen by the students. We vote on topics during class, so there's nothing to prepare ahead of time. Students will practice debate individually, in pairs, and on teams. We'll use "breakout rooms" in our live Zoom meetings so teams can research and prepare their arguments. I teach a Weekly Debate Club on Outschool and have received requests to make a version for older students. My business degree includes courses on public speaking and I've served on international business case competition teams, which have a similar format to a debate. It's crucial in today's world, filled with misinformation and arguments on social media, that young people know how to logically express themselves and engage with others.
