All learners enrolled in this club will read Into the Wild prior to the club meeting date/time. We will begin book club each session with a meet and greet to introduce ourselves by first name and a fun question, such as, "What is your favorite (color, candy, snack, movie, etc.)?" to break the ice as many learners may not have met previously. I will provide 10-15 discussion questions for Into the Wild that each learner will have the opportunity to answer and give feedback on. These discussion questions will be provided to the learner prior to meeting, so they are able to brainstorm answers. They are also welcome to highlight/circle any questions they really find interesting and would like to discuss most with their fellow readers. This club will teach learners regulation as they wait their turn to share, respect of others' opinions as learners' opinions about the novel will vary, summarizing a novel, elements of a plot as action rises and falls, character development as dynamic characters change throughout the plot line and static characters stay the same, as well as themes throughout the novel. This discussion will mainly be learner-led, but I will always guide learners through the comprehension questions as well as discuss other parts of the novel if they wish. We will also discuss predictions for the next novel in the series. If time allows, we may play a Gimkit or Kahoot over elements and events of the story, but participation in these online game formats is not required and is parent discretion.
