In this class I will go over a process for creating unique, handmade, mixed media cards for students to distribute for Valentine's Day to their loved ones. Learners will create along side myself and others in class with the suggested materials I have listed. We will also discuss how to express kind and personal compliments that go beyond physical characteristics to compliment individuals choices and personalities. This is a highly interactive class and learners are encouraged to participate in discussion as much as they are comfortable doing so. This class is less about learning a specific instruction set for how to create a specific end product to share, but rather an open forum to encourage creative expression and expressions of kindness to those in the learners' lives.

Learners will leave class knowing how to use mixed media materials to make unique Valentine's Day cards to share with their loved ones.Learners will leave class understanding how to give meaningful compliments that highlight the choices and personalities of those they are complimenting rather than giving impersonal compliments or those based in a person's physical features.

At minimum learners should have the following for class: - cardstock or blank cards - envelopes - markers and/or colored pencils - scissors - a pencil - an eraser - a black pens of varied thicknesses - double sided tape and/or a glue stick and/or glue tape Learners are also encouraged to bring any art supplies they have on hand including but not limited to: - washi tapes - stickers - colored or patterned papers - watercolor paints and brushes - rubber stamps and ink pads - scrap papers - printed images they'd like to incorporate (I will provide a document with some images they may like; these are optional, and I encourage students to find images that reflect them and their interests in addition to those I provide if printing is an option) - printed pictures of them and their loved ones - any goodies they’d like to include with their valentine’s day cards

I have been making handmade cards since early childhood. My godfather had a small card making business and would help me make personalized Valentine's Day cards for my classmates each year. In adulthood I have always been one to handmade birthday cards and event invitations. I have had an interest in mixed media arts since the beginning of the pandemic (late 2019) when I began pen palling. I have been creating intricate personalized correspondence as a penpal on a regular basis since I began, and have maintained many long distance friendships in this manner. I have also taught card making and complimenting etiquette in an after school enrichment setting. 리뷰
