Unlock your child's potential with personalized Orton-Gillingham tutoring designed to help students develop strong, lifelong literacy skills. This structured, multisensory approach is tailored for learners who may struggle with reading, writing, spelling, or have been diagnosed with dyslexia, ADHD, or other language-based challenges. My goal is to provide a supportive, engaging, and effective learning environment that ensures each student not only improves academically but also gains the confidence they need to succeed.

What Will Be Taught?
This class covers essential literacy skills through the Orton-Gillingham (OG) method, which focuses on:

Phonemic Awareness – Recognizing and manipulating sounds in words.
Phonics – Understanding letter-sound relationships and spelling patterns.
Fluency – Building speed and accuracy in reading.
Comprehension – Improving understanding of texts through word knowledge.
Writing – Learning how to spell, write, and structure sentences and paragraphs.
Vocabulary – Expanding word knowledge by analyzing word parts like roots, prefixes, and suffixes.

Topics Covered:
Throughout the course, we will dive deep into the following key areas:

Basic Phonemes and Graphemes: Identifying and practicing sounds and their corresponding letters.
Word Families and Rhyme Patterns: Exploring common word families to increase word recognition.
Building Word Knowledge with Prefixes and Suffixes: Understanding how word parts modify meaning.
Decoding Strategies: Teaching students how to break down unfamiliar words.
Reading Fluency: Practicing smooth, efficient reading to improve comprehension.
Writing Skills: Incorporating spelling rules and sentence structure into writing exercises.
Multisensory Techniques: Using sight, sound, and touch to reinforce learning.

How This Class Is Structured:
Each session lasts 50 minutes and is broken down into the following components:

Warm-up (5–10 minutes): A quick review of the previous lesson or a fun word game to engage students.
Instruction (20–25 minutes): Direct teaching using the Orton-Gillingham approach, including explicit instruction on phonics, word patterns, or decoding strategies.
Practice (15–20 minutes): Students will work on hands-on activities such as word-building exercises, spelling drills, or reading passages that reinforce the day's lesson.
Wrap-Up (5–10 minutes): Review the material, provide feedback, and assign follow-up practice for the next session.
How Will You Teach?
I teach using a structured, multisensory approach to address different learning styles. This means engaging students through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities to make learning more accessible and enjoyable. Lessons will be broken down into manageable steps, and students will practice each skill until it’s mastered. Here’s how I’ll teach:

Explicit Instruction: I’ll clearly explain each concept and provide plenty of examples, making sure students understand the "why" and "how" behind every lesson.
Hands-On Learning: Using letter tiles, whiteboards, and interactive exercises, students will physically engage with the material.
Visual Supports: I’ll use charts, slides, and videos to illustrate phonics rules and word structures.
Repetition and Practice: Each concept will be revisited frequently to reinforce learning and build retention.
Teaching Style:
My teaching style is patient, supportive, and interactive. I believe in creating a positive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I tailor my approach to the individual needs of each student, adapting the pace and difficulty of lessons based on their progress. The goal is to build confidence while challenging students to grow.

Student Interaction:
I prioritize active student participation throughout each lesson. Students will have plenty of opportunities to engage with me and the material, including:

One-on-One Interaction: I offer personalized attention during each session, ensuring that every student receives the support they need.
Games & Activities: We’ll use fun, educational games to reinforce lessons and encourage active learning.
Discussion and Question Time: Students will be encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts during the lesson, helping to promote deeper understanding.
Feedback: At the end of each session, I’ll provide feedback on their work, reinforcing their successes and addressing areas for improvement.

What Parents Can Expect?
Parents can expect clear, consistent communication about their child’s progress. After each session, I provide feedback on what was covered, areas of improvement, and suggestions for practice at home. If a child is struggling with specific skills, I will adjust the lessons accordingly and give extra support where necessary.

This class is designed to be engaging, hands-on, and supportive, with a strong focus on developing skills that students can carry with them for life. Whether your child needs extra help or a more personalized approach to learning, my goal is to create a nurturing and effective learning environment for every student.

I have had the opportunity to apply this training in a variety of educational settings, working with students of different ages and learning needs, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD.

Relevant Training:
Orton-Gillingham Certification: I have completed formal training and certification in the Orton-Gillingham approach, an evidence-based, multisensory method designed to help students with reading and language difficulties. This certification has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to teach reading, spelling, and writing through structured, individualized lessons.

Specialized Workshops and Continued Education: I regularly attend professional development workshops focused on dyslexia intervention, phonemic awareness, and reading fluency, ensuring I stay up-to-date with the latest educational techniques and research.

Multisensory Techniques: I have also received training in using multisensory strategies, such as visual aids, manipulatives (like letter tiles and whiteboards), and hands-on activities that engage students in learning through sight, sound, and touch.

Teaching Experience:
Classroom Teaching: In addition to tutoring, I have taught in small group settings, where I provided OG-based instruction to groups of students who struggled with literacy. This allowed me to work with students in both individual and group settings, adjusting the pace and structure of lessons to ensure everyone’s success.

Experience with Children of All Ages: I have worked with children from ages 5-18, both in classrooms and through private tutoring. Over the past 14 years, I’ve helped students improve their literacy skills in diverse environments, including after-school programs, summer camps, and private tutoring sessions.
