In this class learners will study atoms and their makeup by drawing models. Each week we will draw models of atoms of different elements. We will study and draw three specific models of atoms: the Bohr energy level model, the Lewis Structure, and the electron cloud/orbital model. Learners will also practice drawing atomic models of compounds made of the week's atoms. Please note that while some elements are taught during multiple weeks the compounds containing those elements will have...
Learners will know the three subatomic particles and understand where they can be found in an atom. They will also know how and why elements join together to make compounds.
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum to help my students build critical thinking skills as well as scientific knowledge. By adding a new twist to a familiar topic we can expand our thinking to include new possibilities. I have taught science to homeschool students for the last 15 years and during that time I have developed many teaching techniques and hands-on projects to help students explore concepts in new and exciting ways.
Each learner will need a blank sheet of paper, a pencil, and some colors for each class.
