When kids are engaged and having fun, they are learning without even knowing it! 

Learners will be creating a set of flash cards during each class so they can continue practicing the words after class ends. After completing 20 weeks of this course, they will have a collection of the 200 "must know" words for 3rd grade and will be ready to move on to my next course for 4th graders! 

During class, we use a learning platform called Kahoot to learn and practice spelling the words. A link to the Kahoot is sent after class so learners can continue to play the game after class ends! **Learners will need to be able to open a 2nd tab on their computer to access the game OR they can use a second device such as a phone or tablet. 

My effective teaching method employs the use of TEN learning modalities when teaching the new words. Learners will:
👀 look at each word and identify spelling patterns
💬 read each word aloud
🔠 spell each word
✍ write each new word (on an index card to make a set of flashcards)
🔨 break some words down into prefixes, suffixes, root words, and syllables 
📚 identify synonyms and antonyms of each word; homophones; and compound words
🎯 make connections to the words and themselves and their experiences
👓 identify critical attributes of each word; discuss multiple meanings and parts of speech
📝 make up sentences using the words
👁 look at a visual representation of the word as used in a sentence  

This course is designed for elementary learners in grade 3 and English as a Second Language learners to master new vocabulary and spelling terms that appear on standardized assessments and in the texts they are reading.

Each class is independent of all other classes so there is no 'starting point' and 'ending point.' So you can jump in any week and continue until you finish all 20 weeks!
