Welcome to Thrive: Mindfulness and Psychological Science for Resilience & Growth! In this eight-week course, students will explore some super interesting psychological studies and get to know their brains, bodies, and communication styles in new ways through evidence-based mindfulness practices. Each week focuses on a specific theme tied to mindfulness about the self, about relationships, and how to cultivate and draw on calming and regulating techniques in moments of stress. In addition to our live sessions, students will receive an activity book at the end of our course to consolidate their learning and continue building confidence, resilience, and connection outside the classroom. What will be taught? How? Throughout this course, we will explore a variety of essential skills that will help you build resilience, self-awareness, and mindfulness. These tools are designed to empower you to manage stress, improve communication, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence. Foundations of Self-Awareness: Understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, exploring the science behind emotions and cognitive processes, recognizing the importance of self-awareness for personal growth, and learning how mindfulness practices can enhance self-awareness. Through activities, you'll reflect on your own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while discovering strategies to better support both your needs and those of others. Mastering Self-Regulation: Learning how stress affects the brain and body, and discovering effective self-regulation techniques such as deep breathing, movement, and sensory grounding. This lesson focuses on managing emotions, staying focused, and using mindfulness tools to stay calm and in control, especially in challenging situations. Building Emotional Resilience: Exploring emotional resilience and the ability to bounce back from setbacks, with a focus on developing a growth mindset. This lesson includes strategies to reframe challenges, embrace setbacks as opportunities for learning, and practice self-compassion when facing adversity. You'll gain tools to build confidence and emotional strength through life's ups and downs. The Science of Focus & Motivation: Understanding how motivation and focus are linked to brain processes, with practical techniques to set and achieve goals. This lesson will introduce strategies like the Pomodoro Technique, eliminating distractions, and building habits to enhance focus and motivation. You'll also explore how mindfulness supports sustained attention and purposeful goal-setting. Understanding Thoughts & Self-Talk: Examining the role of self-talk in shaping emotions and behaviors, and learning how to challenge negative thoughts. This lesson explores the power of self-talk, the effects of cognitive distortions, and how to reframe unhelpful thinking patterns. Through activities like journaling and thought reframing, you'll build a healthier inner dialogue. Mindfulness for Stress & Anxiety: Using mindfulness as a tool for managing stress and reducing anxiety. This lesson focuses on techniques such as mindful breathing, body scans, and sensory grounding to reset the nervous system and cultivate inner calm. You'll learn how mindfulness helps you respond to stress in a more balanced, focused way, especially when feeling overwhelmed. Relationships & Communication Skills: Developing mindful communication strategies to enhance relationships and express needs effectively. This lesson covers the role of emotional intelligence, active listening, and clear self-expression. You'll also learn how to set healthy boundaries, build stronger connections, and communicate with intention, both in personal and professional relationships. Bringing It All Together: Reflecting on the lessons learned throughout the course and reviewing the techniques that have worked best for you. This lesson focuses on setting goals for continued growth and building a roadmap to stay resilient, focused, and mindful. You'll leave with a personal plan to carry forward the tools and practices learned, ensuring lasting progress in your journey of self-growth. Each lesson is designed to provide you with practical tools to build resilience, enhance mindfulness, and empower you to navigate life's challenges with confidence. How is the class structured? Classes require students to play around with new information, and take a look at the concepts in interesting ways - like games, illusions, and reflective activities. We go through content, breaking it up with games and discussions. No homework is given - the live classes are all about seeing what parts of the new information and techniques come up organically for you. In week 8, learners receive a book that helps them to consolidate their learning and read back on the science backing mindfulness practices for resilience, and the different techniques - plus a whole lot of new ones - to continue their practice. What kind of teacher am I? I teach through a mix of direct instruction, playful interaction, mindful practice, and open discussion. I use simple slides to highlight key concepts, real-world examples to keep it relatable, and a lot of fun games and challenges to make the skills active and memorable. My teaching style is supportive, interactive, and strengths-focused. I believe learning happens best when students feel seen, heard, and respected. I blend warmth, humour, and structure to create an environment where students feel safe to take risks, build new skills, and grow. Students will have lots of opportunities for interaction to shape the space! Each week includes live discussions, games, group reflections, and individual sharing. I engage with learners throughout the session, encouraging participation and offering positive, mindful feedback.

Foundations of Self-Awareness
"Noticing my thoughts and feelings helps me understand myself better!" This week we begin by getting to know each other as well as looking at what self-awareness is, and why is it important. We begin to understand the science of emotions, thoughts, and behaviour and the connection between mindfulness and the brain. Through group activities we practice this knowledge and we discover what works for each individual in the space and how we can best support our own - and others - needs.

As a neurodivergent person & support worker I believe that different ways of thinking make the world a richer place. I tailor every technique to fit each unique individual, making mindfulness & psychology accessible, practical & engaging.
수업 자료
Students will be asked to engage in reflective practices - this looks different for every student. Some students enjoy reflecting through artistic practices, journaling, or writing music - no material list is provided, but you may find your learner decides to engage using various materials to express and reflect on their learning. Learners are also welcome to bring along something to fidget with during class. This might be something like playdough (my favourite), some art materials, fidget spinners, or even a ball to bounce. Movement is welcome in the class, and attentive listening doesn't need to involve eye-contact or stillness. Additionally it is always good practice to bring along note-taking materials! You might prefer this to simply be a word document, a sketch book, or a note book. Don't worry if you don't like taking notes - I will send some out at the end of each class.

I am currently completing my Honours in Psychological Science and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling and Psychological Science. I work in advocacy at a national level for a higher education institution in Australia and hold certifications in Mindfulness Coaching, Yoga Teaching, and Somatic Work, which I integrate into my practice to support emotional regulation, self-awareness, and resilience.
I currently volunteer as a mental health counsellor in the public school system, working with children from diverse and complex backgrounds. My experience is further enriched by my role as a parent to five children, including teenagers and neurodiverse and gender-diverse young people, giving me valuable insight into the real-world challenges young people face today.
I have taught mindfulness, resilience, and communication skills to individuals of all ages through my private coaching and counselling practice, and have years of direct experience working with children, teens, and families.
I firmly believe that learning should be fun, interactive, and person-centered. I love embracing all the weird, whacky, and wonderful personalities that come my way — from the extroverted chatterboxes to the sharp-witted quiet thinkers — and I believe that every learner teaches me something new too.
This blend of professional expertise, specialised training, and lived experience allows me to create a supportive, engaging, and personalised learning environment where students can build confidence, skills, and connection.
