곱셈과 나눗셈의 흥미로운 세계 - 함께 알아봅시다!

At some point, students are expected to solve multiplication and division problems.  However, sometimes certain methods are difficult.  As such, we will review many different ways to deal with these problems.  Each class will be delivered in a "stand alone" manner which will allow students to join in for a selected class that interests them, or they may choose to take the entire series of six classes.  ***Please note: This is an advanced class.  Since we will be working with 2- and 3-digit numbers, students should know their multiplication times tables (up to at least the number 12) prior to taking this class.  Otherwise, I would strongly suggest that students have a multiplication chart with them.

We will review a different method each week.  The classes will be structured around a PowerPoint presentation.  During each class, we will collaboratively review material pertinent to the day's lesson.  Then, I will teach the method or methods that we will be covering that day.  Next, I will demonstrate how to solve problems using the material that was just taught.  Then, we will work out some problems together so that it all begins to make sense.  Next, it will be the students' turn to practice their skills.  Finally, we will review the material learned and I will respond to any additional questions.  In order for the students to keep track of everything that was covered, they should be prepared to document key facts during the presentation as well as many of the examples that will be done in class.  That way, they will have excellent notes to refer to whether they choose to take just one class, a few classes, or all of the classes.

After years of working with students, it has become clear that one method does not work well for everyone.  As such, I have compiled a list of frequently used multiplication/division methods.  I am hoping that students will be able to find some that work best for them.
