Samuel Westing the millionaire has died, and 16 seemingly unlikely heirs must compete in a bizarre competition to become his heir. Not all of the heirs are who they appear to be, and one may be a murderer. But who is who? That is what learners will discover in this exciting book club.

In this club learners will discuss classic the Newberry Award winning book "The Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin. Learners will be assigned 4 chapters to read before each meeting of the class, and during class we will discuss what happened in the chapter with comprehension and discussion questions. Learners will also be required to turn in a 2 page paper at the end of the class about the book and from 3 different choices of styles of paper writing given during the first class. (If they wish they may also submit a optional second 1 page paper half way through the course using the same choices) Before the first class learners should read chapter 1 "Sunset Towers"

This story is a mystery of a possible murder, and there are several bombs that are used in a comical way and age appropriate way in the story. There is also a brief very dated description of someone with Down Syndrome. (The character does not appear in the story, but is mentioned a few times)

I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.

I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.

I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
