This is a one time class that discusses the theory of dramaturgy. Goffman is the father of dramaturgy but he used others to inspire his theory that discusses the presentation of self and theater of life. This class will use slides and class discussions to discuss how theater is used in our current court system and in the student's everyday life. This class will discuss the concept of presentation of self, the different roles, costumes, theaters, and stages that are present in all of our lives. We will discuss quotes from attorneys regarding how they present themselves differently in court. The theater of court including "magic words", costumes, roles, and the stage.
학습 목표
Students will understand the nuances of Goffman's theory of dramaturgy and learn how it is present in individuals' lives and also in instituations. We will discuss the various roles, theater, stages, and costumes that we use throughout our lives. We will focus on the court system as an example of an institution that is built on theater.
