수업 소개

What’s your favorite book? Have you ever seen the movie? Why do you think you are drawn to it? There’s actually research out there that says that when we watch our favorite movie or read our favorite book, we become involved with the characters. We root for the good guys, feel the pain and anguish of the bad guys and relate the story to our own lives. There’s also research out there that watching the movie first, actually makes the book make more sense. We can connect the concepts through visualizing the scene in the movie as we read the same scene in the book. We can apply concepts of film analysis to reading analysis! It’s a really awesome concept that helps students with comprehension of literature while learning through film. In this class, we will watch 2 films and then read and discuss their book counterparts.
Students will interact with each other and the teacher in live discussions, chat and screen sharing in the classroom, and out of class through the classroom forum.
Class time will be structured so that students will spend 5 minutes talking about the weekly theme. They will then spend 20 minutes brainstorming and sharing resources they feel relate to the weekly theme. These can be clips, readings or audio/video materials. This is to generate connections to allusions. They will then spend 10 minutes generating and asking each other and the teacher questions about their resources and connecting the weekly theme to universal themes.
The last 10 minutes will be a written or an oral reflection. This class will use Edpuzzle and have students watch part of the film on their own so we can be ready to discuss it in class. There is a project due at the end of the class where students apply their knowledge by comparative analysis of their chosen book/novel combination.

The topics to be covered:
Week1. How to analyze a film and novel (with practice)
Week 2: Selected film and novel readings (A Wrinkle In Time)
Week 3: Comparative analysis (Excerpts/Allusions from other dystopian novels/films)
Week 4: Selected film and novel readings (Hamlet)
Week 5: Comparative analysis (Excerpts/Allusions from modern life)
Week 6: Project
학습 목표

I am offering this class as a means to further explore digital media as a means of expression and to connect movies and literature, to life! I have experience with all ages and a variety of learning needs. I believe connecting learning to life is key to generating understanding of abstract concepts.
