In this one-time class, we will take a dangerous tour of the world! We will learn about some of the most extreme places on the planet, exploring both geography and science in each location. We will visit each continent - from earthquakes in California to the dangers of Mount Everest! We will cover a quick scientific explanation of natural phenomena such as tornadoes and lightning storms and look at the biology of fearful creatures like sharks and jellyfish. Learners will develop mapping skills in finding and marking each location on a map. Learners will gain an introduction to a wide variety of scientific phenomena: tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, lava lakes and ice shelves of Antarctica. Learners will be able to identify several dangerous animal and plant species and be able to give an overview of general risks of each.
I will provide a printable map for students to use to track the locations we discuss on our world tour.
