수업 소개
영어 수준 - 알 수 없음
미국 3학년 - 6학년 학년
This class will cover what an organism is, what the three domains are, what the 5 kingdoms are, the 8 classifications for organisms, what a scientific name is, what a mnemonic is and how to make one, and where to research these classifications for a given species online. The class will be led through a slide presentation for the first 10-15 minutes. During this presentation we will discuss what an organism is and follow along while making a paper stepbook to write notes in for each of the classifications we will need to discuss to finish the worksheets for this course. The last slide will cover the topic of mnemonics and how we can remember the specific order the taxonomic classifications we just learned go in. This will be followed by a small one page worksheet titled "Create Your Own Mnemonic" where we will go over the terms for taxonomy classification again and use the second column to create one together as a class. Then we will use the third column on the worksheet to create our own by ourselves. Around the 25 minute mark I will screen share with the class so we can work on and complete our 7 page classification worksheet titled "Classify It!". We will use a combination of the National Library of Medicine: National Center for Biotechnology Information taxonomy database and Wikipedia. These websites will give us the information we need to find the 8 taxa for the 7 species we will see on our worksheets. The seven species included in the class are the common boa, monarch butterfly, blue fin tuna, African elephant, banana tree, chicken pox, and oyster mushrooms. We will search these 7 species during the final 20 minutes of the class and list their taxa on the worksheets provided together.
학습 목표
Students will learn what taxonomy and classification are. Students will also learn the 8 classifications for living organisms and what an organism is. Students will be able to create a stepbook by the end of this course. Students will learn what a scientific name is and what binomial nomenclature is. They will learn what a mnemonic is and how to use it to memorize the order of classification covered earlier in the course. Students knowledge of online resources for life sciences will expand after using databases to find the taxa for several species covered in class.

Slides with content will be screen shared using the Canva application. No account other than OutSchool will be needed for the students.
수업 자료
Students will need 5 pieces of printer paper size 8.5x11 in any color and a pencil or pen for writing. A stapler and parent supervision is recommended when putting the finishing touches on our taxonomy stepbooklet. A worksheet titled "Create Your Own Mnemonic" and a 7 page worksheet packet titled "Classify It!" will need to be printed off for this course. Printing on the front and back is okay.
