This course is designed for children who are able to write simple (subject/verb/object) sentences, and are ready to learn how to add more detail and description to their work. Students will be taught how to improve their vocabulary choices and use of grammar in sentence writing. They will be encouraged to read out their work and comment on each other's writing in a supportive way. The emphasis will be on having lots of fun with words. Starting with very basic sentences, students will practice a different strategy each week in order to add more detail and description: transforming boring sentences into 'exciting writing'. In weeks 5 and 6, they will apply all the skills learned in the first 4 weeks. Correct use of punctuation will be encouraged and taught in each class. Week 1: Using adjectives Week 2: Using powerful verbs / adverbs Week 3: Using conjunctions Week 4: Changing word order Week 5 & 6: Consolidation of skills from weeks 1-4. Throughout the course, I will emphasize to students that they will be able to practice these skills in all their future writing.
