Summer Piano Fun (Level 1) 8 Classes | 8 Songs In this 8-week ongoing class, we will learn to play the piano by ear through listening and imitation, and create our own lyrics, rhythm, and melodies together. In each class, we will begin with playing the simple rhythmic and melodic patterns that are found in the new song for each day. Once we practice the melodic and rhythmic patterns and piano songs together, students will be invited to create new lyrics, rhythm, and/or notes to compose their own variations of the songs. As an ongoing class, students are welcome to join, stop subscription for the specific week(s) and/or rejoin the class and complete as many classes as they wish. We will be learning a new piano piece in each class with a total of up to 8 songs for the students enrolled in all the classes. Join us for all the classes and learn to play all 8 songs! Upcoming Piano Fun | Summer | July-August 2022* Class 1 - July 10 Class 2 - July 17 Class 3 - July 24 Class 4 - July 31 Class 5 - August 7 Class 6 - August 14 Class 7 - August 21 Class 8 - August 28 *To combine this piano class with a theory class, please check: Theory Fun | Theme 1 Melody 🎶 (Back-to-back classes: Summer Piano Fun & Theory Fun | Theme 1 | Summer 2022) Level 1 For first time piano players and/or early beginners. Dear Outschool students and parents,
Thank you for your interest in my arts-based piano and applied music theory classes and I’m so happy to be exploring creative ways of exploring music and piano playing with the Outschool community.
I am a pianist, teacher, and educational researcher with over 20 years of music and piano teaching experiences. I completed my PhD in Curriculum Studies, specializing in music education and arts-based research methodologies.
Based on my doctoral research, I have been developing my own arts-based piano and music theory curriculum that integrate piano improvisation, stories, poems, and/or drawings to encourage, support, and inspire children’s own unique, individual ways of exploring music and learning to play the piano.
In our piano classes, we will learn to play the piano by creating our own music, improvise new sound effects on the piano to accompany the storybooks, read/write poetry as inspirations for our piano playing, and lots of drawings to express our musical ideas.
In our theory classes, we will learn to read, write, and compose our own beautiful melodies and harmonies together.
