Beat the summer slide by reviewing your math skills all summer long! Each week we will review a different fourth grade math standard. Then we will make it a little more challenging to start preparing for the fifth grade standards they will be learning this upcoming school year. I believe in using the I do, we do, you do method of teaching. I will start by sharing a few examples and go through the steps. Then we will go through a few examples together. Finally, students will have an opportunity to test out their skills on their own. Week of 6/9: Long Division with Remainders I will model the standard algorithm and box method to solve long division problems. Then we will work through a few problems together. Finally, students will work on their own individual problems that are at their level. Week of 6/16: Multi-Digit Multiplication I will model the standard algorithm and area model to solve multi-digit multiplication problems. Then we will go over a few problems together. Finally, students will work through their own individual problems that are at their own level. Week of 6/23: Multi-Step Word Problems Using All Four Operations We will work through multi-step word problems together. We will discuss how to identify if the word problem requires multiple steps, define clue words, and go over how to break down a word problem. Week of 6/30 and 7/7: Finding Equivalent Fractions and Comparing Fractions I will model how to find equivalent fractions by comparing shapes, multiplying the numerator and denominator, and cross-multiplying. We will also cover how to simplify fractions through equivalent fractions. We will work through several problems together and then learners will have the chance to try on their own. Week of 7/14: Adding and Subtracting Fractions and Mixed Numbers This week we will review the standard of adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators and then add the difficulty of having unlike denominators. We will continue to strengthen our ability to find equivalent fractions and our ability to simplify fractions. Week of 7/21: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions We will review multiplying fractions and multiplying fractions with whole numbers. After, we will discuss how to divide fractions and whole numbers and how to divide fractions with fractions. We will also explore word problems to see how these problems may present themselves in real-life scenarios. Week of 7/28: Compare and Convert Units of Length We will discuss both imperial and metric units. We will go over the inches in a foot and feet in a yard. Then we will learn how to convert each of those measurements into another. Also, we will talk about centimeters, meters, and kilometers and convert each of those measurements into another. Week of 8/4: Compare and Convert Units of Weight We will discuss both imperial and metric units. We will go over the ounces in a pound and pounds in a ton. Then we will learn how to convert each of those measurements into another. Also, we will talk about milligrams, grams, and kilograms and convert each of those measurements into another. Week of 8/11: Lines, Adjacent Angles, and Angles of a Circle We will review the different types of lines and angles and then discuss what adjacent means. We will look at the angles provided and either find the total of the angle or find the value of the missing angle. Finally, we will discuss how a circle is 360 degrees and find the value of angles in a circle using fractions. Week of 8/18: Place Value Into the Thousandths Place and Adding and Subtracting Decimals We will discuss place value and how each number to the left is worth ten times more and each number to the left is ten times less. We will also discuss how decimals can also be represented as fractions. Finally, we will go over how to add and subtract fractions. We will discuss lining up the decimals in our problems and what to do when one number has more numbers than the other. Week of 8/25: Multiplying Decimals We will continue working on our multi-digit multiplication skills but with numbers that have decimals this time. We will discuss how to add decimals to our answers and then go through word problems to strengthen our skills.
